MealThe stunningly gorgeous Island of Santorini, located in the middle of the Aegean Sea, has long been known as a romantic destination spot. But how's the wine? With more than a 5,000 year history of growing grapes on Santorini, it really shouldn't come as a shock that the locals know what they're doing, and today are producing some remarkable, delicious wines. Today we have two goals - to learn more about Santorini wines and to take in some of the gorgeous views of one of the most photographed locations in the world.
Our first stop is the village of Oia, located along the Caldara's rim and famous for its spectacular views. We begin with a walking tour of the village along the cobblestone streets that house the famous blue shuttered, white washed houses that will make you feel as if you've stepped into a postcard. You'll have some free time to sit in a café or visit one or more of the shops before we depart for the other side of the island.
We drive to the North end of the island for a special tour and tasting at Domaine Sigalas, the only Greek winery to be included into Wine Spectator's "Top 100 Wines of the World" list. Leaving Domaine Sigalas, we'll drive past many verdant vineyards before we arrive at the Boutari Winery. Boutari was founded by Yiannis Boutari, a Greek Winemaker whose influence over the Greek wine industry has been equated by Wine Spectator as being "… on par with Robert Mondavi in the Napa Valley." We'll tour the winery and cellars, then sample some of their award-winning wines. After our tour and tasting, the winery will host us for a wonderful sit-down, wine-paired luncheon.
Our drive around the island brings us back to the town of Fira. Bidding our guide good-bye, you'll be free to spend the rest of your time on the island however you choose. Stroll along the winding lanes or relax over an espresso while gazing over the two black volcanic islets in the bay below, it's up to you. A short cable car ride down from Fira will bring you back to the pier, and giving you one last chance to gaze upon the majestic views of this picture-perfect Greek island.

Tour Code: NAU-293
Duration: 7 hours
Extreme Walking or Long Tours
MealEn route to Corinth this tour will briefly stop to take photos at the famous Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal is 4 miles long, 70 feet wide, 26 feet deep and has sloping sides which reach 170 feet. The canal's construction commenced in 1881; although the idea of connecting the Ionian and Aegean Seas seems to date back to at least Roman times.
The next stop along the tour will be ancient Corinth. The ruins that lie in this area are a confusing mix of an ancient 6th-century B.C. Greek City and a 44 B.C. Roman city. The "newer" Roman city was built after Julius Caesar placed a colony of veterans on the desolate site which was, (until its destruction by Mummius and his ten legates in 146 B.C.) the surviving Greek city of Corinth. At the site you will be able to see ruins and excavations of both including a Christian basilica, the starting lines of a Greek race track, a sacred spring with its 5th-century B.C., bronze lion's head spouts and the elaborate Roman Fountain of Peirene.
After having visited Corinth, our tour will proceed to Mycenae where lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, guests will pass the famous Lion's Gate and enter the ancient citadel of Mycenae, which had been inhabited since 3000 B.C. Inside the Cyclopean-walls (to the right of the entrance) is the Grave Circle; the Royal Cemetery believed to have contained the body of Agamemnon. This is the thought to be the true location, as a magnificent golden mask was excavated here. Outside of the walls and 400 meters from the Citadel site is the location of the startling Beehive Tomb of Agamemnon; also known as the Treasure of Atreus.
Please note: This tour involves difficult walking conditions when visiting the sites, with over 200 steps to climb at Mycenae.

In the evening, join your guide for a tour of the Acropolis at a time when most tourists have left, just before sundown. Then retire to a restaurant balcony across from the Acropolis to savor Greek wine and appetizers as you watch the shadows creep across the Parthenon. The rest of the evening is at your leisure. Your guide can suggest excellent choices for your dinner, or just stroll the Plaka and see which sidewalk cafe calls to you. Overnight at the Periscope Hotel, Athens.
Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide to plan your half-day of touring. Will it be the Agora, the Olympic stadium, or the Archeological museum? Your guide will help you decide and will gladly share their expertise with you. In the evening, you will be taken to a restaurant in the city to enjoy Greek cuisine at its best. Overnight at the Periscope Hotel, Athens.
Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy the morning at your leisure for some last minute shopping or just enjoy the Greek hospitality at your hotel. Your driver will pick you up in the late morning and drive you to the seaside where a delicious seafood lunch is in store. After lunch, transfer to your waiting cruise ship.
