Duration: 3 hours

New Zealand's early Maori and European history is yours to discover during this scenic and informative visit to the Bay of Islands.
Depart Waitangi Wharf for the scenic drive to Paihia, the commercial center of the Bay of Islands. One of the earliest missionary stations was established here in 1823.
Your drive will then continue north to the Puketi Forest. Upon arrival, you will take a brief, guided walking tour of the Manginagina Reserve. Along the way, you will see some enormous Kauri trees, some of which live more than 1,000 years. Although these Kauri forests once covered much of the northland, there are now few remaining areas where these towering trees remain.
Next, a visit will be made to Kerikeri. New Zealand's first homestead, Kemp House, was built here to house the early missionaries, who also built the adjacent Stone Store. Today, Kerikeri is a thriving citrus fruit growing area that supplies much of New Zealand's oranges, lemons and grapefruit. It is also a popular haven for artists and retirees.
Following your visit, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to Waitangi. Upon arrival, you will proceed to the Waitangi Treaty House and grounds, where your RSSC event will commence. At the conclusion of the event, you will be tendered back to the ship.

Experience the calm waters of the Waitangi Estuary in a unique new way during this scenic, half-day kayaking tour.
Depart the Waitangi Wharf with your kayaking guide for the walk across the Waitangi Bridge to your awaiting kayaks. After receiving your safety instructions, you will commence your kayaking tour of the beautiful Waitangi Estuary. Along the way, you will see a proliferation of mangrove trees, and their extensive root systems protruding out from beneath the water's surface. These unique trees are the lifeblood of this estuary, and a favorite breeding ground for many small fish.
At the end of the Waitangi Estuary you will reach the Haruru Falls, which are surrounded on one side by the beautiful Waitangi Forest. Although not especially high, the Haruru Falls are still a spectacular sight, especially after any recent rainfall. Light refreshments will be served at a picnic area near the falls before returning to the Waitangi Wharf.
Please note: The Waitangi Estuary is normally very calm and well protected. Guests do not require any previous experience, as basic training is given. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. There is approximately 400 yards of walking from Waitangi Wharf to the kayaking center. Wear a bathing suit under shorts or a cover-up, beach shoes, a hat and sunglasses, and bring a jacket in case the weather turns cold. Discover New Zealand's historic Maori and European influences during this scenic journey to Kerikeri and Waitangi.
Depart the Waitangi Wharf for the drive to Paihia, the commercial center of the Bay of Islands and site where one of the earliest missionary stations was established in 1823. You will then continue on to Kerikeri, where New Zealand missionaries built the first house, Kemp House, and adjacent Stone Store. Today, Kerikeri is a thriving citrus fruit growing area where much of New Zealand's oranges, lemons and grapefruit are grown. It is also a popular haven for artists and retirees.
Upon returning to Waitangi, you will visit the recently-restored Waitangi Treaty House. It was here that the Maori chiefs signed over sovereignty of their lands to Queen Victoria of Great Britain in 1840. Explore the longstanding traditions of New Zealand's first settlers during this Maori cultural experience, and a visit to the Puketi Forest.
Depart Waitangi Wharf with your Maori guide for the drive to Kerikeri, and a visit the Puketi Forest. Upon arrival, your guide will escort you on a short walk in the Maanginagina Reserve. Although they once covered much of Northland, there are now few remaining areas where these towering trees stand.
Next, you will continue south to the Moerewa District, where you will visit the local meeting place, or Maori Marae. Upon arrival, you will be formally welcomed in the traditional Maori way before entering the richly-carved Marae. The elders, who trace their ancestry back to the Maori voyages to New Zealand from Polynesia approximately 800 years ago, will explain the Maori carvings and tribal traditions to you.
After some light refreshments served at the Marae, you will proceed to Kawakawa, a small, typical Kiwi town that is home to a most unlikely tourist attraction; the much-celebrated public toilets designed by internationally renowned artist and architect Frederick Hundertwasser. On your return drive to the Waitangi Wharf, you will pass through Paihia, where one of the earliest Missionary stations was established in 1823.
Please note: This tour involves approximately 400 yards in the Puketi Forest, and 300 yards at the Maori Marae. There are no steps. Although casual clothing is recommended for this tour, guests are strongly advised not to wear shorts, as they would be deemed as offensive inside the Maori Marae. The Maori Marae selected for your visit is likely to be the Otiria Marae in Moerewa. However, in the event a funeral, or tangi, is held there, you would likely visit an alternative Marae.
