Privacy Policy and Email Marketing
Privacy Policy
UncommonCruises.com® understands the privacy concerns of today's Internet users. We are committed to fully protecting your privacy, both on- and offline. We hope that the following explanation of our privacy policy completely alleviates any possible concerns you may have.
UncommonCruises.com® will not intentionally sell or disclose any personal information about you or your travel plans to any other persons, organizations, or companies known to collect such information expressly for the purposes of delivering unsolicited email or illicit materials. Your personal information may be divulged when required by law or when protecting the legal rights and/or property of UncommonCruises.com®.
Whenever personal information (such as your name, address, and email address) is required, we will explicitly ask you to supply it. We never ask for credit card details online. The information you provide to UncommonCruises.com® will be kept confidential and used only to support your relationship with us. Some examples of where we ask you for personal information are opt-in subscriptions, membership registration, or actual cruise or trip bookings.
Many websites, including ours, use cookie technology (an industry standard) to help you navigate through a site more efficiently. Cookies prevent you from making the same repetitive selections over and over again. Most Internet browsers are initially set to accept cookies; however, if you prefer, you can always set yours to refuse cookies. Be aware, though, you may not be able to take full advantage of most websites if you do. Cookies in and of themselves cannot personally identify users; however, they can identify a user's computer. What is important for you to know is UncommonCruises.com® does not use cookies to store personal information.
Please also be aware that our website and those of our affiliates may contain links to other websites. The privacy policy and practices of these other websites may differ from those at UncommonCruises.com®. Our Privacy Policy does not extend to these other websites, so we encourage you to read the Privacy Policies of other websites you visit. If you have any concerns, please email us at Privacy@UncommonCruises.com
E-mail Marketing Guidelines
UncommonCruises.com® will only send out information to you if you have actually requested us to do so. In order to send you any marketing-related information, we diligently abide by an ever-growing set of industry rules and regulations, not to mention our own very stringent guidelines of what is ethically appropriate.
Obtaining and Maintaining e-Mail Addresses
UncommonCruises.com® does not purchase, rent, lease or otherwise obtain e-mail lists from companies, individuals, organizations or websites (other than our own website or our parent company's). When we obtain e-mail addresses and/or other personal information from you, we can only do so by having you purposefully subscribe (opt-in) and/or provide it in one of the following ways:
- providing it to one of our Specialty Cruise Advisors (see the 'Contact an Advisor' box in the left margin on several of the website's pages)
- including it on the registration page of Signature Travel Network, a travel industry consortium of which we are a member
- becoming a Member of the Uncommon Cruises Community (see the 'Member Login' box in the left margin on several of the website's pages)
- subscribing to one or all of our publications: eNewsletter, ePostcards, or Special Reports (see the 'Subscriptions' box in the left margin on several pages of the site) including it on the Request More Information registration page (see the 'Request More Info' box in the right margin on several of the website's pages)
One way we ensure the accuracy of your email address is to ask that you enter it twice. This way, it helps ensure accuracy so that correspondence is sent to the right recipient. It also helps to validate that any bounce-backs (returns) we receive are indeed legitimate. When an email bounces back to us, we remove that address from our list.
Policies Pertaining to Soft (4x) and Hard (5x) SMTP Response Codes/Bounced Messages
In order for an e-mail address to be eligible for removal from our list, we follow the industry protocol of four consecutive bounces (soft bounces) followed by a fifth (hard bounce) for it to deemed no longer active. Once these bounce limits have been reached, we then immediately remove the e-mail address from our list. There are no circumstances under which we would ignore this protocol of four bounces deemed temporary and the fifth permanent.
Other Policies
If you request the removal of your email address by telephone, written correspondence or by email, we will remove your address within 24 hours of receipt of your notification. However, if you chose to remove your address by clicking on an 'Unsubscribe' link on any email correspondence you receive from us, your removal is instantaneous.
Bear in mind a few additional points...
You may have separately provided your email address to one of our Specialty Cruise Advisors, in which case you will have to contact him/her directly, should you also wish them to not forward any promotional literature, helpful information, or travel-related services to you via email. There is no effective way that we can notify your Specialty Cruise Advisor that you opted out through the automated 'Unsubscribe' system.
The other point to keep in mind is that we do have more than one subscription program. When you click on the unsubscribe (opt-out) link on a piece of email correspondence you receive from us, you only unsubscribe from that specific subscription (e.g. our eNewsletter). If you originally subscribed to more than one, you will still receive the others (e.g. ePost Cards and Special Reports). Should you wish to opt-out from all, you will have to unsubscribe from each individually.
Once a user is removed from our e-mail list, the corresponding e-mail address is completely erased from our database.
